Hardwood Ballroom Flooring
Whether it’s teaching, rehearsing or performing, professional ballroom dancers can easily spend eight hours a day or more on the floor. And while it is important for the ballroom flooring to be elegant and long lasting, it’s even more important to have a safe, high-performing subfloor system beneath it. The subfloor system determines how the floor responds to movement, directly influencing balance, glide, and dancer comfort.
Junckers is in a unique position to achieve both beauty and performance. We produce a wide range of stunning hardwoods combined with the most innovative subfloor systems on the market. Our solid hardwood ballroom flooring delivers exceptional durability, the perfect surface friction, and effortless movement – everything ballroom dancers rely on for precision, grace, and flow.
Sub-construction: The foundation for your ballroom dance floor
Sub-construction refers to the underlying structure that supports the surface of a ballroom floor. The sub-construction of a dance studio flooring system plays a critical role in the overall comfort, performance, and safety of the floor. A well-engineered subfloor and sub-structure provide a stable foundation, ensuring that the surface remains perfectly level and does not warp or shift over time.
For ballroom dancers, the right sub-construction is essential — it ensures smooth glide, optimal energy return, and lasting comfort through hours of rehearsals and performances. A stable and properly engineered foundation supports graceful movement, protects dancers’ joints by absorbing impact, and maintains consistent friction and balance across the entire ballroom floor pattern.
At Junckers, you can choose from a wide variety of sub-construction systems to suit any project, whether your priority is flawless surface stability, acoustic comfort, or long-term durability. Each system is designed to complement our solid hardwood ballroom floor materials, ensuring beauty, strength, and performance in every step. If you need help choosing the right sub-construction for your ballroom or dance studio flooring, our technical team is ready to guide you — from system selection to full installation support.
Sprung Wooden Ballroom Floors
As a long-time global leader in the development of dance studio flooring and sports floor systems, Junckers originated the Clip System, which has become our most popular subfloor for ballroom and performance spaces. Beneath our solid wood surface is a specially designed dance foam layer that absorbs impact and enhances stability, allowing dancers to move freely while maintaining control.
The unique Clip design allows individual plank flexing while the floor is in use — a comfort feature exclusive to Junckers, providing the smooth, even response essential for ballroom dance. Read more about our Clip system floors.
In some situations, a padded sleeper, double basket-weave, or other “sprung” subfloor system may be preferred. Junckers produces a full range of sprung systems, including our exclusive wedge levelling systems. These ensure a perfectly flat surface, even when installed over uneven subfloors. For ballroom dancers, this means consistent movement and flawless performance across every part of the floor.
Portable Wooden Ballroom Floors
If you’re in need of a hardwood ballroom floor that is easy to remove, store, and reinstall, Junckers offers a variety of portable flooring systems designed for professional use. A portable ballroom floor is ideal for dance competitions, touring events, and multipurpose venues. In most cases, Junckers’ portable floors can be installed directly over existing surfaces without causing damage upon removal.
When it comes to the choice of a ballroom dance floor, it’s essential to consider glide, stability, and long-term performance — qualities where Junckers’ solid hardwood systems truly excel.
Whether you’re looking for the best ballroom flooring or a temporary dance floor solution, Junckers has a system tailored to your performance needs. Each floor combines elegant aesthetics with high durability, engineered to deliver the perfect balance of glide and grip for both slow waltzes and fast-paced Latin dances.
Junckers solid hardwood ballroom flooring is available in a wide selection of beautiful colours, species, and finishes. The factory-applied urethane finish ensures a consistent ballroom floor pattern, ideal friction, and long-lasting protection, even in high-traffic studios and event halls.
Since Junckers hardwood is prefinished, and in most cases requires no on-site acclimation, installations are quick and clean. Most dance studio flooring projects can be completed and ready for use within a few days, with minimal disruption to ongoing activities.
Solid Hardwood Ballroom Flooring – Certified Wood and Indoor Climate Care
Junckers only uses wood from forests managed in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way. Planting new trees as old ones are cut down is one of the characteristics of sustainable forestry. To protect the climate, we strive to use wood harvested as close as possible to our factory. This is why our raw wood is mainly sourced from forest areas in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland.
Junckers achieved Chain of Custody certification in 2006 and has since been able to offer PEFC certified products. In 2010, we also achieved certification under the FSC® scheme.
Furthermore, we have a wide range of wood flooring and woodcare products that carry the Danish Indoor Climate Label. The Indoor Climate Label is your guarantee that the products do not have odours or chemical substances that can adversely affect the air quality in the room.
Easy Cleaning and Maintenance of Your Ballroom Floor
Maintenance of a Junckers ballroom floor is simple. On a daily basis, a scrubber-dryer machine with minimal water is sufficient. To keep the floor in top condition, we offer dedicated cleaning products such as resin remover, degreaser, and mild soap solutions.
Additionally, Junckers produces its own professional sports lacquer, approved according to the European standard EN 14904. The lacquer bonds perfectly with the existing surface, so only light screening is needed before refreshing with a new coat.
For ballroom flooring, this ensures consistent glide, elegant appearance, and long-term protection against the wear of heels and continuous movement. When maintained regularly, sanding down to bare wood is rarely required — making it a lasting, sustainable investment for any dance studio flooring.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ballroom Dance Flooring
What is the best flooring for a ballroom dance studio? add
The best ballroom flooring is made from solid hardwood such as beech, maple, or oak. These materials for your ballroom floor provide the ideal balance between glide and grip, supporting both smooth waltz movement and fast Latin rhythms. Solid hardwood also offers superior durability and aesthetic appeal, making it the preferred dance studio flooring for professional environments.
Why is sub-construction important in ballroom flooring? add
The sub-construction beneath your ballroom floor plays a crucial role in performance and comfort. A sprung or resilient system, like Junckers’ DuoBat, UnoBat, or Clip System, ensures optimal shock absorption and surface stability. This helps prevent joint strain while maintaining a perfectly level surface for consistent movement and a flawless ballroom floor pattern across the room.
How do I maintain my ballroom floor to ensure long-term beauty and performance? add
Regular sweeping and gentle cleaning are all that’s needed to preserve the finish and glide of your ballroom flooring. Junckers’ factory-applied lacquer protects against scuffs and moisture, while the solid hardwood surface can be refinished multiple times, extending the lifespan of your ballroom floor material for decades. Proper maintenance ensures your floor retains its elegant appearance and ideal dance performance year after year.
