Badminton court flooring
Safety, performance, and durability – the most important considerations when choosing a floor for badminton courts, badminton halls or multi purpose sports halls. Badminton players make big demands upon their badminton flooring. Badminton is the fastest racquet sport in the world, so players must be able to trust the badminton flooring to have the right level of slip resistance as they move fast around the court.
Safety is paramount. A Badminton court floor must be shock absorbing to protect the players’ joints from impact injuries. A shock absorbing sprung badminton floor enables players to perform at their best.
Due to the speed of the game the wood floor must have a uniform colour, against which the shuttlecock can easily be seen. Junckers 22mm solid hardwood sports floors are ideal; they are available in a choice of grades, selected for uniformity of colour.
Wooden Badminton Court Floors
Junckers manufactures specialist solid hardwood badminton floor systems recommended for all levels of play, from grass roots to elite level. The UK’s premier sports universities use Junckers sports floors for badminton coaching and competition.
THE IDEAL FLOOR BOARDS
Junckers solid hardwood SylvaSport and Sylvaket floorboards used in combination with one of Junckers tested and approved sprung undercarriage batten systems provides the perfect badminton playing surface.
SylvaSport and Sylvaket solid beech floors are the ideal choice of flooring for badminton courts, selected for their uniformity of colour, superior strength, durability and longevity.
Technical performance
The technical performance standard for Badminton court floors is EN 14904 for multi purpose sports floors. The standard assesses the floor’s shock absorption, surface friction and visual characteristics, along with vertical deformation and ball response.
Junckers has a wide range of area elastic floor systems that comply with EN 14904 categories A3 and A4.
Junckers sports floors also meet the requirements of Badminton England and Sport England and are officially accredited by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
The ideal sports floor system
Junckers offers a range of floor systems to suit different construction levels and subfloors, all providing the high quality sprung floor that badminton players prefer.

PORTABLE SPORTS FLOORS

Sub-construction: The foundation for your badminton court
Sub-construction refers to the underlying structure that supports the playing surface of a badminton court. The sub-construction of a badminton floor plays a critical role in the overall performance and safety of the court. A well-constructed sub-floor and sub-structure provide a stable foundation for the playing surface, ensuring that the court remains level and does not warp or buckle over time. They also help to absorb shock and reduce the impact on players' joints, helping to prevent injuries.
At Junckers you can choose between a wide variety of sub-constructions that will fit any need you might have.
Easy cleaning and maintenance of your badminton floor
Maintenance of a Junckers badminton floor is simple. On a daily basis, it is more than enough to use a scrubber-dryer machine with a low dosage of water. To keep the floor in optimal condition, we offer maintenance products such as resin remover, degreaser and mild soap products.
Additionally, we produce our own sports lacquer. The lacquer is approved in accordance with the European sports standard EN 14904 and has a high ability to bond with the existing surface. This means that only a light screening of the floor is needed before refreshing with one coat of our sports lacquer. If years of hard wear require a more comprehensive refinishing, it is possible to sand the floor down for complete restoration. If a sports floor is regularly maintained, sanding down to bare wood is rarely necessary.
Solid Hardwood Badminton Flooring - The Best Choice for the Environment
Junckers only use wood from forests managed in a sustainable and environmentally responsible way. Planting new trees as old ones are cut down is one of the characteristics of sustainable forestry. To protect the climate, we strive to use wood harvested as close as possible to our factory. This is why our raw wood is mainly sourced from forest areas in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland.
Junckers achieved Chain of Custody certification in 2006 and has since been able to offer PEFC certified products. In 2010, we also achieved certification under the FSC® scheme.
Furthermore, we have a wide range of wood flooring and woodcare products that carry the Danish Indoor Climate Label. The Indoor Climate Label is your guarantee that the products do not have odours or chemical substances that can adversely affect the air quality in the room.
Pre-Finished Surface for your badminton flooring
Junckers solid hardwood floor systems are pre-finished, fast to install and cost effective. This all helps the installer to keep to his schedule and means that the owner will have minimal “down time” before the court will be ready for use. A solid hardwood floor offers unbeatable life cycle costs and the initial cost will be less that a similar synthetic floor finish, with all the low carbon and environmental benefits that solid hardwood brings. Frequently Asked Questions About Badminton Courts
How do you build a badminton court? add
To build a badminton court, follow official dimensions (13.41 m × 6.10 m for doubles, 5.18 m wide for singles, with clearance space and 7 m ceiling height), choose the right flooring material (solid hardwood for top performance, or alternatives like vinyl, synthetic, or modular tiles), and complete the installation steps: prepare the subfloor, install the sports floor system, apply court markings, and perform final quality checks.
With regular cleaning and maintenance, a hardwood system ensures long-lasting, safe, and regulation-compliant play.

What factors determine the cost of a badminton court floor? add
The cost of a badminton court flooring system depends mainly on the flooring material, the system type (fixed or portable), and installation requirements such as subfloor preparation, moisture protection, and line marking.
For larger facilities like a multi-purpose gym flooring project, the total investment is also affected by facility size, customization, and long-term maintenance.
For more information, read the full cost overview.
What is the best flooring material for a badminton court? add
The best flooring material for an indoor badminton flooring system is solid hardwood (such as beech, ash, or maple), because it provides superior shock absorption, slip resistance, durability, and consistent ball response — making it the preferred choice for both professional sports halls and community facilities.
Alternatives like vinyl, synthetic, rubber, or modular tiles can also be used in multi-sport gyms or temporary venues, depending on facility needs, budget, and whether the court is permanent or portable.
Want to know more about your choice of material? Read our full guide.
What is the best athletic flooring for recreation centers? add
The best athletic flooring for rec centers is solid hardwood sports flooring, such as Junckers’ beech, ash, or maple systems. These floors deliver durability, multi-sport versatility (basketball, volleyball, and badminton), and athlete safety through optimal shock absorption, consistent ball response, and reliable traction.
They are EN 14904 certified, easy to maintain, and can be refinished multiple times — making them a cost-effective long-term solution for high-traffic community gyms and multi-purpose halls.
