Can you install a portable basketball court over ice?
A portable hardwood basketball court can be installed over an ice arena only as part of an engineered conversion system. The court should never be placed directly on exposed ice or assembled from a generic do-it-yourself build-up.
The conversion must manage temperature, condensation, moisture, flatness, load distribution, and movement while protecting both the ice and the hardwood. Insulating and protective layers, temporary decking, edge transitions, arena equipment, and operating conditions must be designed as one system. The finished base also needs to provide stable support for play, hoops, seating, carts, and event loads.
Planning should include installation and removal routes, acclimatization, storage, ventilation, cleaning, and monitoring throughout the event. Requirements vary by arena and portable court system, so no universal layer sequence is appropriate. Use a documented solution approved by the portable floor manufacturer, arena operator, refrigeration team, and qualified project engineer, supported by a site-specific installation plan.
